Field Use Policies and Practices
Dear Coaches and Parents,
Each team is issued a pre-season field permit indicating a field,
dates, and times your team has permitted rights. Once the season
starts each team is issued a new Field permit. You should
have your team's permit in your possession at all times. You
may only practice at that field on those dates and times. If you have
scheduling conflicts please let us know and we’ll try to work with
you.
Most practice sites have
multiple Delta Baseball League teams. The field is divided into
areas. Teams should take turns using infields or backstops as
available. If you have any questions regarding areas please see the
Field and Facilities Director.
If another organization is in
your area during your permitted time you may show them your permit and
ask them to leave. If they refuse, you can call the police to have
them removed.
The city updates their field
hotline after 3pm. We update our website and hotline as soon as we get word from the
city. Please note our website is the official notice for field
closures, not the City.
Please check the website. If it’s rained in the past 48 hours or there are other environmental issues
such as excess heat, fire smoke, toxic release, etc. If there's no
“Fields closed” message with today's date at 4pm then the fields are open.
The school district follows the
lead of the city for field closures. If the city fields are closed, so
are the schools. Even though the fields are closed, the schools
themselves will still use the fields for their own programs. For
example, soccer tryouts were held at Black Diamond Middle school in the rain when fields were
closed.
The Antioch Youth Sports Complex on Wilbur Ave. does not follow the City’s lead on field closures. By policy, AYSC will notify DBL
when fields are closed, and DBL will in turn notify you via the website and hotline. DO NOT call or email AYSC and ask about field availability;
leave that to the DBL Fields and Facilities Director.
When DBL closes our practice fields, you may see teams practicing at fields throughout the city.
Please bear in mind that not every league has the same field use or closure policies as DBL.
There are also travel teams that are unaffiliated with any league that may practice throughout the city even when DBL closes our fields.
Their actions should have no bearing on your actions. If you have concerns, you should contact the DBL Fields & Facilities Director,
the DBL President, or a DBL Vice President.
When fields are closed, practice
isn't necessarily cancelled. You could go to the batting cages or
conduct other team activities such as miniature golfing, bowling,
movies, etc.
Sincerely,
Delta Baseball League Board of
Directors
